Psychology is a research-intensive field, covering a wide range of topics, including the psychology of genocide, child development, abnormal psychology and more. Undergraduate students are encouraged to participate in research activities as early as their first year; graduate students are required to build a research portfolio.

Areas of Research
Our faculty and doctoral student researchers cover wide range of psychology subfields, with dissertations focusing on relevant topics including the opioid crisis, LGBTQ+ issues, relationships, the experiences of black women, and toxic masculinity.
Faculty Research
Clark psychology faculty are actively involved in research; they publish, write grants, present at national and international conferences, and mentor all levels of student research.
Graduate Research
Psychology graduate students conduct high-quality empirical and theoretical work and are encouraged — and expected — to present their work at international and national conferences. They also actively submit that work for publication.
Undergraduate Research
Psychology majors conduct research through specific courses, the department’s honors program, directed study, and other noncredit opportunities.
Research Facilities
The Frances L. Hiatt School of Psychology features laboratory space for all faculty and student research, including the Research Skills Room for data analysis and the Presentation Preparation Room. Dedicated lab spaces contain data collection and observation rooms, as well as space for data coding and analysis.
